Excellence Blog Post #5 Home Learning Challenges

The Home learning challenge that I chose was: Design Your Own Challenge

For this Design Your Own Challenge, I have decided to write a procedure that I follow every time or most of the time when I start a new piece of art, so you can see the steps of what I do to create the best masterpiece that I can.

1. Firstly I go onto the internet to find some inspiration of what I want to do.
2. I then prepare all my paintbrushes and tools that I will be using.
3. I have pre set my paint from my last piece and because its oil paint, it will dry after use and to fix that you simply put a bit of food oil onto the paint and start mixing it with an oil art knife.
4. I make sure all my paints are ready to use before I start and that my paintbrushes are in good condition.
5. Then, I start making a sketch of roughly how I want it to look like, making sure its not too much in detail.
6. I always start with the sky as I work from top to bottom. I put a white base coat on first, so the main color would pop in the background.
7. Before starting at the bottom, I put on a base coat for the ground and using colors like brown or golden brown to outline the structure of trees and/or bushes.
8. One very important thing I look at is perspective. This makes that painting more alive and it gives more of the feeling of being in that picture just by looking at it.

Write an effective argument for our chosen political party.

Intro

Is the Green Party the one you should vote for?

Personally, I think Green should be the party you should all vote for.
Here are a few policies I would like you to read about the Green party and why you should vote for them. These include, Public Transport, Waterways and Health.
I believe that transport in our country could initially be quite important because of all these families that could have injured people or want to spend time out and about.

Public Transport

Make public transport free for under 19s.
The Green Party would make public transport free for all under 19s and free during off peak times for tertiary students, apprentices and disability beneficiaries.
Everyone under the age of 19 would be eligible for a Green Card. This would entitled them to free transport on buses, trains and commuter ferries.
This will lessen the traffic and therefore, reduce pollution.
I strongly believe this is a good idea because for some families, the cost for public transport is too high and they would be forced to drive themselves which cause more traffic and pollution.
As well as having this as very important policy in my opinion, I also believe we should have lakes and rivers safe for swimming for the public with no problems in the water that can cause anything bad.

Waterways

Make all rivers and lakes safe and swimmable.
There will be a National Policy Statement on Freshwater Management to help make sure the waters are all safe for swimming. This means, that this issued by the government to provide directions about the matters of our national significance.
I believe this is a good policy to have in our nation because to help ensure that all of our New Zealand rivers can be enjoyed by everyone, we need to stop the pollution happening and the sewage that goes into the rivers and lakes.
ALso, it’s good to enjoy swimming in our native lakes because this shows our New Zealand heritage and our fresh waters that belong to our country.
I strongly believe this is a really good policy and it shows how great our country is, but not only is this a really good policy to have in our country, but making sure our health is daily checked and making sure all our NZ citizens live healthy is very important.

Health

Extend free doctor visits to people under 18.
The green party will make GP visits and medicines free to those aged 13 to 17.
I consider this a good policy because health to me, is very important and I believe everyone should live healthy and take care of their bodies really well.
Free doctor visits could improve a lot of young children's lives, people who are sick and don’t have much money can afford these visits to help them feel better with free medicine as well.
As well as having all these policies that are great and will make big differences in our country, I also disagree with some other policies that the Green Party have come up with. Here’s one.

Allow police to search cars and houses for firearms.
Because maybe some families wouldn't want their house or their cars checked by the police.
It can be reported to the police station instead by anyone else who sees it. Also, it might be a privacy issue.
So there are policies that I don’t agree with, but with the majority, I think it’s great. Here are the points that I will wrap up.

Conclusion

There we go, hopefully I have convinced you enough to why you should vote for the Green party.
The Green party has very strong policies about our Health and Community, therefore, I think Green deserves a chance to be voted for.
I have explained about the three main policies that I think will make a bigger difference in our country and make it healthy for our citizens to live happy.
So, are you going to vote for the Green party? Cast your vote now.

My next step is to consistently use conjunctions.

Koru Games Reflection

In the Koru Games the sport I competed in was Volleyball.

Our team won all our games except one on the first round and made into the top 8. We lost two games in the final and came 6th place overall.

I found the experience to be amazing because it was really fun and we all meet new people and made new friends with our competitors. This would definitely be one of my highlights for my last year at Oaklands.

In terms of working with Individuals and Groups; my solo level is relational because I can respond positively to the needs of others and I am able to help anyone who is stuck.

For Teamwork; my solo level is relational because I can take responsibility in a team and explain my choices in terms of team outcomes.

Individuals and groups
I need help to work in a group (with teachers or other students
I can work in a group with my friends.
I can work in a group with anyone in my  year level or team

I can reflect on how well I work with the group and seek feedback on how I can improve
Teamwork

I need help to interact with others.

I need help to participate in a team.
I can interact with others one to one.

I can participate in a team.
I can interact with others in a small group.

I can participate and take responsibility in a team.

I can participate and take responsibility in a team and explain my choices in terms of team outcomes.
I can participate in creating healthy teams by taking responsibility and critical action.

Know the equivalent decimal and percentage forms for everyday fractions.

In Maths we have been learning:
  • To convert between fractions, decimals , percentages and vice versa.

Here are the IXL screenshots that show evidence of my learning.

The most challenging part about this unit of learning was to complete the IXL maths tasks because it was very frustrating for me when I did the strategy right but have missed something out.

My next learning step in Maths is to apply this knowledge to help me solve a range of increasingly more complicated maths problems.

Letter Writing

In Writing we have been learning to: Write a formal letter.

We have followed the writing process and have planned and drafted a formal letter.

This shows the process that we have followed.

Here is the letter that I have written.

Here is my reflection on the letter writing that we have done.

One thing that I found challenging about writing formal letters was remembering the correct format that I have to use.

My next step is: look for more opportunities to put my letter writing knowledge into practice in the future.
